I lead a sheltered life - An essential guide to sheltered housing
There are over 25,000 sheltered housing schemes in the UK, all of varying shapes and sizes. Choosing one that ticks most or all of the boxes on your home wish list can seem a daunting task, but we have put this guide together so that you can make an informed decision about moving into sheltered housing.
Do you want to lead a sheltered life?
Sheltered housing has been specifically designed for people, usually aged over 60, and refers to a group of flats - or sometimes houses or bungalows - for rent or for sale. The combination of (typically) self-contained properties, with their own bathrooms and fitted kitchens, a scheme-based or visiting scheme manager, and 24-hour emergency call centre assistance ensures independence, privacy and security for residents.
Where communal areas and facilities exist, people often enjoy social activities and events that mean life is never dull.
Many sheltered housing providers aim to provide a ‘home for life’ – ask them.
